Limited Treatment; Minor Fixes, Major Benefits

June 8th, 2020

Many adults had braces in the past and lost the straight smile they once had. Many other adults have simply never been happy with their smile. Maybe you’ve never considered orthodontics as an adult because you can’t imagine wearing metal braces to client meetings; maybe it’s because it’s a big time and financial commitment to undergo years of braces as an adult.

Whichever boat you fall into, we have good news! My team and I don’t want any roadblocks in the way of you having a beautiful smile… or having it back again.

That’s why we’re offering a Limited Treatment option to the adults of our community where my team and I will address only the elements of your smile that are most important to you. That means shorter treatment times and reduced fees.

Our practice, Hickman Orthodontics, is an Invisalign provider with tons of experience...which means that your treatment will be virtually undetectable.

People won’t notice you’re wearing them

Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners to straighten teeth. And, unlike traditional braces that you might have had as a kid, Invisalign aligners are removable. You take them out briefly when you eat or brush your teeth - that means no food caught between brackets; no flashbacks to the middle school cafeteria for you. Most of the time your aligners will stay in so they can do the work of moving your teeth. The good thing is that they are virtually invisible so people won’t even notice you’re wearing them.

Sometimes the most minor fix is just what you need

While we do offer full orthodontic treatment for adults at our practice, we find that many just don’t want to make that commitment. Whether it’s financial or time restraints, Limited Treatment is a great option.

Together we will figure out which elements of your smile are most important to you. We’ll agree on a course of treatment to fix only those areas, and we’ll set an estimated timeline. Because of the limited nature of the adjustments we are able to improve your smile in a much shorter timeframe than for those looking for full orthodontic treatment.

You’re not alone

Adults are getting braces more than ever before. The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) says that adults are getting orthodontic treatment in record numbers, and not all of them for the first time either. Not only that, patients are reporting that after treatment they feel better about themselves and their social lives. Most would recommend seeking out treatment for other adults. Major benefits!

See an Expert

There are many services out there claiming they can mail you aligners and fix your teeth. We strongly believe that even the smallest changes to your mouth should be done under the in-person care of a trained and certified orthodontist, and the AAO agrees. Dr. Todd Hickman has extensive schooling in both dentistry and orthodontics (obtaining a degree for Doctor of Dental Surgery with high distinction in 1996, as well as his Certificate of Orthodontics in 1998) as well as specific training in treatment with Invisalign.

Make sure you know who it is that is making changes in your mouth. What looks like a small fix could domino into major issues without a trained orthodontist looking at the full picture.

At Hickman Orthodontics we have treated hundreds of teens and adults with Invisalign. We know what we’re doing and we’ve treated cases that are both difficult (Full Treatment) and simpler (Limited Treatment). Our team strives for clinical excellence in a friendly and welcoming environment. We appreciate that you have a busy schedule and will make sure to have you in and out as quickly as possible - time is important to us! …. It’s one of the reasons why we offer Limited Treatment.

It gets even better. With our special Dental Monitoring technology, we can even schedule virtual appointments via your SmartPhone! If we don’t see anything unexpected, we will give you instructions to move forward - no need to come into the office. That means fewer in-person visits, more efficiency, and texts from me with feedback on your progress. Socially distant - check!

Sounds like this is for you?

Hickman Orthodontics Welcoming Back Patients

April 29th, 2020

Dear Patients of Hickman Orthodontics,

We are happy to welcome you back to the office starting 04.27.2020 as we reopen under the guidelines of the governor’s office. Hygiene and safety have always been a priority at our office and we will be taking additional measures to ensure the safety of our patients and staff during this time.

Here are a few of our current in office changes and guidelines:

  • Any patient experiencing flu-like symptoms or fever, feeling sick or that has been exposed to anyone suspected to have been exposed to COVID-19, please reschedule your appointment and please do not enter the office.
  • When coming in for an appointment, we ask that you wait at our door for one of our staff members to come check you in for your appointment. Parents/Guardians will be asked to fill out a questionnaire and sign a consent form then return to their car. We will take your temperature and have you wash your hands before bringing you directly to the treatment area.
  • For new patients under 18, one parent may accompany the patient into the office.
  • Our tooth brushing stations are closed for now. Please brush your teeth thoroughly before coming to your appointment.
  • For additional safety, we have installed an RGF Air Purification System. The REME HALO is proactive and sends ionized aggressive advanced oxidizers into the room to destroy pollutants at the source, in the air and on surfaces, before they can reach our patients and staff.

Finally, for your convenience and safety, we will continue to offer virtual appointments for exams, observations appointments and retainer checks.

Our staff and patients are our family, and we are doing everything we can to keep our family safe. We thank you for your understanding and patience and look forward to seeing you again very soon!

The Top Reasons Why You Should Only Seek Invisalign Treatment with an Orthodontist - By Dr. Todd Hickman

February 25th, 2020

It seems that there are many options for straightening teeth these days and there’s no question that Invisalign is a front-runner. You can enjoy virtually invisible teeth-straightening while continuing to eat the foods you enjoy, brush and floss your teeth normally for better oral health and minimize office visits. The choice is clear!

However, you might wonder why it’s necessary to see an orthodontist for your Invisalign treatment. Here are the top reasons why only an orthodontist should treat you or your teen:

You only want to do this once. Do it right.

Everyone knows an orthodontist’s goals are straight teeth and a healthy bite. We ensure that the teeth, upper and lower jaws, gums and facial muscles are positioned so that you can bite, chew and speak well. Without taking these components into consideration, problems can arise, such as issues with the jaw joint (TMJ), headaches, excessive wearing or chipping of the teeth, premature tooth loss and gum problems.

Orthodontists identify the cause of the problem, and then solve it.

You may see crooked or gapped teeth. We see the cause of the problem. Orthodontists use their education, experience and expertise to delve deep to discover the root of the issue and solve it in a way that is healthy and sustainable-- for an attractive smile and a lasting result.

Orthodontics goes beyond your teeth.

Orthodontists study facial esthetics and understand how tooth movement can change your facial profile, smile line and general appearance. We understand how it relates to the face and future growth changes and take a holistic, comprehensive approach to your treatment so that your overall appearance is considered along with your smile.

Orthodontists are specialists.

After our dental school education, orthodontists devote an additional 2-3 years to the study of only orthodontics. We practice orthodontics exclusively. We focus our continuing education on orthodontics and see hundreds of patients per month. We are uniquely positioned to use our knowledge and skills to help you get the best possible result.
